For those of you who know us, you would know that we love to travel and find influence and inspiration in the places, cultures and people we encounter on our journey.  Given that we are nearing the end of year, a time where people take time to travel abroad or explore this beautiful country of ours, we would like to share 2 of our favourite places.

The Maldives – Heaven on Earth…

If you are wanting to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the Maldives is for you.  I was fortunate enough to experience this magical place, heaven on earth, some 7 years ago.

With its white combed sand and pristine beaches it is easy to de-stress and bask in the serenity that the Maldives has to offer.  For me it was the perfect opportunity to have time to reflect on my creative direction and to really get the creative juices flowing.

I stayed at the Taj Exotica, a resort housed on one of the myriad of islands that make up the country.  You can walk this entire island in 10 minutes, my room hovered over the crystal blue ocean.  Schools of fish majestically navigated these waters, seemingly swimming together in a flawless performance designed to entertain as we enjoyed breakfast.

The days seamlessly melted into evenings, with a glorious and uninterrupted sunset.  Nights were a magical display of astrological brilliance.

Louisiana Museum of Modern Art – Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen is a wonderful place.  You can tell that the people are happy, they radiate an aura.  It is comforting and safe and it rubs off on you.  Not to mention that the city is absolutely beautiful, with its cobble stone lined roads, and canals, Tivoli gardens and beautiful fusion of majestic buildings with cutting edge architecture.  It is hard not to fall in love with this place.  As a designer I was especially in awe of the way the people support and praise there architects and designers.  They idolise them.  Speaking to people it was easy to see just how much they love to support their designers, opting to save for beautiful Danish pieces of furniture that they can hand down to the next generation.

One place in Copenhagen that resonates with me is Louisiana Museum of Modern Art.  North of Copenhagen, this museum is situated on a spectacular property with direct views of Sweden.  Like all Danish design, Louisiana is effortless, elegant, and considered.  Moving through the buildings of Louisiana is a sensory experience unlike no other. There are so many different parts to discover – little nooks and crannies, narrow spaces and compressed corridors with low ceiling heights which suddenly emerge into vast volumes, smooth circular stairwells, galleries with spectacular oversized windows, and gorgeous views to the ocean. Some spaces are internal and dark, others feel light. Everything, from the smallest detail like the minimalist framing to the oversized sliding glass panels, beautiful signage is considered and works perfectly.  It is the perfect housing to the myriad of artworks on display.
